The National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has conveyed a message of condolence to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the assassination of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 3, the Muslim community in Ghana described the killing as a painful loss not only to Iran but to the broader global Islamic fraternity.
The Chief Imam paid tribute to Ayatollah Khamenei as a deeply pious figure who embodied the fusion of faith and governance. He said the late leader demonstrated that religion and statecraft, when responsibly aligned, can serve as complementary instruments for social stability and national development.
He further hailed him as a symbol of resistance and a source of hope for oppressed communities around the world.
His Eminence condemned what he described as US–Israeli aggression that led to the assassination, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan.
However, he also expressed sorrow over the loss of all lives in the conflict, regardless of nationality or religious background — Jewish, American, Arab, or Persian.
Calling for restraint, the revered Islamic leader urged all parties involved to respect the sovereignty of nations, uphold human dignity, and preserve the sanctity of Ramadan. He stressed that escalating rhetoric must give way to deliberate and practical peacebuilding efforts.
While acknowledging that the conflict appears largely geopolitical in nature, the Chief Imam noted that interfaith harmony remains a vital pathway toward sustainable solutions.
He further advocated for a redefined global order anchored on the principle of “right over might,” arguing that such a shift would strengthen global peace and security for all humanity.
The statement concluded with prayers for Allah’s mercy upon Ayatollah Khamenei and all those who have died in the pursuit of righteousness.
