The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has insisted that churches need to build strong ties with government, other faith groups and state agencies if they want to expand and impact national development.
According to him, a vibrant church cannot operate in isolation but must work closely with the broader society to advance its mandate and remain relevant.
Rev. Wengam was speaking at the 10th World Assemblies of God Congress on Thursday, October 15, where he said cordial engagement with authorities and community structures is critical for the church’s survival and growth.
“A healthy church relates well with society, government and other religious bodies. It doesn’t antagonize the system. You need a good working relationship with government and social institutions. Without that, you cannot survive or grow,” he stated.
He further urged churches to inculcate discipline and good citizenship among members, noting that Christians must be law-abiding and uphold the values of the society they belong to.
Rev. Wengam said the church’s role goes beyond spiritual nurturing to equipping members to be responsible citizens who add value to their communities.
