The Accra High Court has directed that Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, widely called Abronye DC, be held in police custody after he failed to obey a court order to hand over his passport under his bail terms in a pending criminal matter.
The court gave the directive after finding that Abronye DC did not meet the conditions imposed when bail was granted.
Abronye DC was not present in court when the decision was announced. The Bono Regional Chairman is presently facing a count of false publication in a case filed against him by the State.
Last month, the High Court approved his bail after he had first been detained following his appearance on the charge. Among the bail requirements, he was instructed to lodge his passport with the court.
However, his reported failure to follow that instruction led the court to withdraw the bail granted and order his detention in police custody.
The main criminal matter is still outstanding and is set to proceed before the Circuit Court, where hearings on the false publication charge are underway.
