President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to come out strongly for Day Two (Saturday, July 11,) of the National General Cleaning exercise, stressing that citizen involvement was key to sustaining sanitation gains and cutting flood risks.
In a Facebook post on Friday, July 10, the President thanked everyone who showed up for the first day of the nationwide drive. He praised residents, security services, government officials, traditional leaders and volunteers for what he described as a strong and successful start.
Day One saw Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, ministers of state and regional ministers from the seven flood-hit regions take part.
Personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), corporate bodies and traditional authorities including the Ga Mantse were also present, alongside ordinary citizens.
President Dramani Mahama joined the exercise himself at Tse Addo in Greater Accra, where he worked with locals and other stakeholders to clear blocked drains aimed at improving drainage and preventing future floods.
After the activity, the President presented relief supplies to Mamobi General Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital to aid their infection control and sanitation work following the June 29 floods.

The items, donated by private Ghanaian firms from their production lines, included diapers, liquid detergents, washing powder, antiseptics, disinfectants, bleach and other essentials.
The goal is to help health facilities and affected communities uphold hygiene and restore safe conditions.
The two-day National General Cleaning exercise is running in seven flood-affected regions under the Post-Flood Mitigation Committee. It forms part of government’s response to the June 29 floods that led to loss of lives, displaced thousands, and caused major damage to homes, businesses and public infrastructure.Mahama ended his post with the rallying call: “We go again, get involved.”
