A joint police operation has led to the arrest of eight suspected highway robbers linked to an armed attack on a passenger minibus along the Mampong–Ejura road, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command has announced.
According to a police statement dated March 31, 2026, the suspects were apprehended on March 30 at Amakwa Dadey Hotel, where officers found them allegedly sharing GH¢15,717 believed to be proceeds from the robbery.
The robbery occurred on March 26, 2026, at about 3:30 pm near Aframso Bridge. Six armed men reportedly ambushed a Ssangyong minibus (registration number AS-1859-12) driven by Appiah Joseph, who was transporting 14 passengers from Kumasi to Atebubu. The attackers made away with cash and mobile phones belonging to the victims.
Following the incident, the police gathered intelligence and mounted surveillance on the suspects, with support from the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit in Accra. Acting on this intelligence, the joint team moved in on the suspects at the Ejura location.

Seven suspects—Amidu Sajo (42), Ibrahim Sule (36), Karim Hadu (40), Malik Jibrilla (38), Yusifa Asakoko (23), Umaru Issifu (20), and Damani Yamba (36)—were arrested at the scene.
An eighth suspect, Ibrahim Iddrisu, also known as Bule (43), attempted to flee upon sighting the police. During a pursuit, he allegedly attacked an officer with a cutlass and tried to seize the officer’s weapon. Police say he was shot in the left leg and arm.
Iddrisu was initially taken to the Mampong Government Hospital and later referred to Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police disclosed that Iddrisu had been on their wanted list since 2023 in connection with a separate robbery on the same road and was also being sought by the Atebubu Police Command for related offences.
Items retrieved during the operation included two live AK-47 rounds, three cutlasses, GH¢15,717 in cash, eight mobile phones, a talisman, an ID card, and a side bag.
The seven remaining suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while Iddrisu’s body has been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital morgue for preservation and further action.
Ashanti North Regional Commander, Felix Apedo, stated that operations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and recover more weapons.
“Further developments will be communicated in due course,” he said.
