The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has offered bail to former GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited CEO, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, amid ongoing probes into suspected financial misconduct.
Mr Jumah, detained on Wednesday, 29 April, 2026, was granted bail of GH¢55 million but stays in detention as his lawyers battle to fulfil the requirements.
Speaking on the matter, Paul Yandoh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said the bail conditions are proving hard to meet given the size of the figure.
“As of yesterday night, he received a bail bond of 55 million Ghana cedis before his release from custody. I don’t have that kind of money to bail him,” he stated.
He noted that attempts to secure his release have stalled, with counsel unable to locate property that matches the stipulated value.
“The lawyers can’t find assets that add up to that figure… so he remains in custody,” he added.
Mr Yandoh further challenged the basis for the bail amount, calling it excessive compared to the accusations being examined.“How can someone sell scrap… and you demand over 550 million? Why?” he queried.
Mr Jumah’s arrest came after a search at his Kumasi home as part of EOCO’s continuing inquiry into potential violations of public financial management rules during his time at GIHOC Distilleries.
