The Economic and Organised Crime Office has underscored being a Member of Parliament does not shield anyone from investigation.
In a statement issued after Wednesday’s failed attempt to arrest Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, EOCO stressed it respects parliamentary privilege but will not allow it to be used as a cover to evade the law.
The Office said its officers withdrew from the operation at the Accra High Court after the situation turned chaotic, fearing further action could endanger public safety.
The MP later fled to Parliament to seek sanctuary.EOCO disclosed that Awuah has ignored two invitations sent in February 2026 to assist with an ongoing probe, insisting the investigation will continue within the bounds of the Constitution.
