The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied approving the deployment of DVLA staff to register or renew driving licenses for Ghanaians abroad, contradicting earlier statements by DVLA CEO Julius Neequaye Kotey.
The Ministry claims there is no record of formal engagement or policy directives supporting such an arrangement.
The controversy arose after Mr. Kotey announced plans to provide licensing services in the US, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, and UK, sparking concerns about public fund usage amidst local DVLA office challenges.
In response, DVLA clarified that they are collaborating with Ghana’s embassies in selected countries to serve qualified citizens abroad.
The planned international offices aim to combat counterfeit licenses and provide legitimate services, with countries such as Germany, UK, USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa on board. This move is part of efforts to modernize Ghana’s licensing infrastructure and address rising global mobility
However, the Foreign Affairs Ministry maintains that no official approval or policy directive has been issued to facilitate such a plan.
