The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced an expedited process to replace passports lost or damaged during the recent floods that affected parts of Ghana, as government intensifies efforts to support victims and restore essential public services.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026, the Ministry expressed sympathy to families affected by the disaster and reaffirmed its commitment to assisting those whose travel documents were destroyed by the floods.

“The Ministry recognises that due to the floods many Ghanaians may have either lost their passports or had them damaged,” the statement said. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to implement an expedited replacement of lost and damaged Ghanaian passports as a result of the floods.”

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader response to the disaster following directives from President John Dramani Mahama to provide relief to affected households and facilitate the restoration of essential services and documentation.

Under the special arrangement, affected persons are required to contact the Ministry between Friday, July 3, and Friday, July 17, 2026, through a dedicated hotline on 055 936 8563.

Applicants will be required to provide their full name, date of birth, gender as captured on the lost or damaged passport, and a valid contact number to begin the replacement process.

According to the Ministry, all eligible replacement passports will be processed within one week of applicants making contact.

The flooding, which began on Sunday, June 28, and intensified on Monday, June 29, caused extensive damage across parts of the Greater Accra Region, destroying homes, businesses and important personal documents. Several fatalities, including suspected electrocution-related deaths, were also reported in Alajo and nearby communities.

The passport replacement initiative complements broader government recovery measures, including the allocation of GHS350 million from the Contingency Fund announced by President Mahama to support relief, recovery and flood mitigation efforts.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, together with regional authorities, has also stepped up relief operations for displaced residents and other vulnerable groups.

Authorities say the fast-track passport replacement exercise is intended to ease the administrative burden on flood victims as they work to recover from the disaster and rebuild their lives.
