The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has issued a three-day ultimatum to foreign traders operating retail businesses within the spare parts hub, demanding they cease operations or face enforcement measures.
According to the Association, these foreign traders are violating Ghana’s investment laws, disrupting fair competition and jeopardising local businesses’ survival.
“We are giving them three days to do this. Today, we will go round, humbly talk to them for them to understand, and then we will talk to their leaders on Wednesday. If they refuse to listen to us, that’s where we will bring in the authorities. We will send our letters to the police, give them five days, and then write a letter to all the institutions that are supposed to come in, and from there, we will do what we want to do,” said Gifty Lovelock Naana Fianu, General Secretary of the Association.
The Association warned that if authorities fail to intervene, they will enforce Section 27(1) of the GIPC Act, 2013 (Act 865), through citizens’ arrest if necessary. Some foreign traders have already shuttered their shops, while a public announcement vehicle patrols the area, issuing warnings.
