Normal operations have resumed at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) following the suspension of a four-day strike by doctors over the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer.
Patients are once again being called in for consultations and assigned to their respective doctors, while those with scheduled appointments are receiving medical attention as usual.
Hospital sources confirmed that doctors and other health professionals have returned to full-time duties, resulting in a significant improvement in service delivery across the facility.
The OPD, which experienced reduced activity during the industrial action as many patients sought care at peripheral health facilities, was busy on Wednesday, with large numbers of patients accessing treatment and consultation services.
The strike was suspended after the intervention of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose engagement helped ease tensions between the parties involved.
Despite returning to work, the doctors have maintained that the government must continue engaging stakeholders to address the concerns that led to the dispute and ensure a lasting resolution.
The resumption of services is expected to ease pressure on other health facilities and restore normal healthcare delivery at one of the country’s largest referral hospitals.
