The Paramount Ruler of the Ga people, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has been released from the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) after a traumatic car crash earlier this week. He received a clean bill of health from medical professionals following a thorough evaluation, just hours after President John Dramani Mahama visited him at the hospital.
The revered traditional leader was involved in a severe vehicular incident on Tuesday, 17th February 2026, while heading back to Accra from a confidential engagement. The accident occurred in the Oti Region, prompting widespread concern among the Ga community and Ghanaians nationwide.
According to the Ga Mantse’s Office, the crash happened as the King’s motorcade navigated the Pai-Katanga section of the Oti highway. The King had travelled to the Northern Region to strengthen ties with the Ya Naa, a visit aimed at fostering inter-traditional harmony. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities, and the King and his entourage received assistance from the Ghana Police Service and royal officials at the scene before being airlifted to Accra for expert medical attention.
Following his admission to the UGMC, the King underwent a battery of medical tests. His Chief of Protocol and Communications, Amb. (Sir) S.J.K. Parker-Allotey, stated that the King’s recovery has been rapid. In a statement, the King expressed heartfelt gratitude to the emergency responders, medical team, and the public for their prayers and good wishes.
The King’s return home concludes a challenging week for the Ga Traditional Council, with his first public appearance eagerly anticipated.
