GCB Says Labone Branch Was Not Targeted

GCB Bank has debunked reports of a robbery at its Labone branch, saying nothing of the sort happened at the location. This comes after an earlier announcement from the Ghana Police Service that a robbery attempt in the Labone area had been stopped.

The Police Service stated on Thursday, August 13, 2026, that it had thwarted an attack on the GCB Bank in Labone, during which two suspected robbers were shot dead and one was arrested.

However, GCB Bank has insisted that the incident did not take place at its Labone branch or within its compound. “GCB Bank wishes to clarify that no robbery or attempted robbery took place at our Labone Branch or on the Bank’s premises,” the bank stated in a statement.

According to the bank, there was no break-in and none of its customers, workers, cash or assets were impacted. “At no point was the branch breached, and no customer, member of staff, funds or property of the Bank was affected,” it added.

GCB Bank reassured clients that the Labone branch is safe and encouraged them to go about their banking activities as usual without worry. The bank also said it is working closely with the appropriate authorities and will keep tracking developments on the matter. “GCB Bank remains safe, secure and fully committed to serving” its customers and stakeholders, the statement concluded.
