The Ghana Education Trust Fund has cautioned the public against fraudulent contract award notices and procurement publications being circulated in its name by suspected scammers.
In a statement issued on May 14, the Fund said it had become aware of fake announcements and procurement-related communications targeting contractors, suppliers and consultants with the aim of extorting money from unsuspecting individuals and organisations.
According to GETFund, the fraudulent publications falsely claim to offer contract opportunities and official procurement engagements linked to the Fund.
The institution stressed that the publications are entirely unauthorised and did not originate from GETFund or any of its official structures.
GETFund clarified that it does not directly award works contracts to contractors. Instead, it explained that projects are distributed through coordinating councils after parliamentary approval and requests submitted by relevant stakeholders, including heads of institutions, Members of Parliament and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
The Fund warned that any person or organisation engaging with individuals behind the fraudulent schemes does so at their own risk and would not be dealing with GETFund in any legitimate or official capacity.
It further stated that the institution would not accept responsibility for any financial losses, payments or contractual commitments resulting from interactions connected to the fake procurement publications.
GETFund also disclosed that it is working with the Ghana Police Service and other national security agencies to investigate the matter and identify those responsible.
The Fund urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious messages, publications or activities linked to the scam to the nearest police station or appropriate security authorities.
According to GETFund, all legitimate procurement processes, contract awards and public notices are communicated exclusively through officially recognised and verifiable channels in accordance with public procurement laws and established procedures.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and protecting the public from fraudulent activities carried out under its name.
