Ghana has intensified moves to bring back a national airline, with US Ambassador, Victor Emmanuel Smith, meeting Boeing executives in Seattle to discuss a possible alliance.
The talks centred on backing the revival of a flag carrier, covering potential deals on planes, technical help, aviation instruction and upkeep. During the session on Thursday, 30 April 2026, Ambassador Smith highlighted how vital a robust national airline was to Ghana’s growth goals.
“We would appreciate a partnership with Boeing in securing appropriate equipment to ensure that the rebirth of a national carrier does not elude us,” he said.
He added that restoring a national airline would lift commerce, tourism, and investment, while cementing Ghana’s role as a regional aviation centre.
Boeing voiced confidence in Ghana’s air transport outlook, with Senior Manager, Rachel Peterson, stating the firm sees “tremendous potential” in the country’s aviation market and welcomes deeper talks.
The meeting is part of wider work by Ghana’s mission in Washington, D.C., to strengthen commercial links with US firms and draw capital into priority areas.Ghana has pursued efforts for years to rebuild a national carrier after Ghana Airways folded, as officials seek to enhance links and drive economic change.
