Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to improving governance and accountability in the diamond industry as it hosts a review visit under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme in Accra.
The visit is aimed at assessing the country’s compliance with international standards and promoting responsible trade practices in the diamond sector.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, said the government has introduced several reforms to strengthen oversight across the diamond value chain.
He said the measures include enhanced inspection and verification processes, stronger internal control systems and targeted training for personnel working within the sector.

According to Mr Gyamfi, the reforms demonstrate Ghana’s commitment to improving transparency and meeting global expectations for responsible diamond trade.
He added that the government welcomes feedback from the review team to further improve regulatory frameworks and governance in the sector.
The review visit includes briefings on Ghana’s legal and regulatory framework, internal control systems and collaboration with law enforcement agencies and industry stakeholders.
Mr Gyamfi also noted that Ghana currently serves as Vice Chair of the Kimberley Process and is preparing to assume the chairmanship in 2027.
He said the goal is to ensure that the Kimberley Process remains effective in preventing conflict diamonds from entering the global market while promoting responsible trade among participating countries.
