Ghanaian internet pioneer and acclaimed computer scientist, Prof. Nii Narku Quaynor, is urging the country to encourage its youth to pursue advanced technical skills in software and systems development.
In an interview, Prof. Quaynor emphasised the need for young people to move beyond surface-level tech trends and invest in real development capabilities.
“We should encourage our youth to be doing more hard development,” he said, highlighting areas like programming, systems engineering, and core computer science. Prof. Quaynor, who played a key role in bringing internet connectivity to Ghana, remains committed to building the next generation of talent. “I have a class of over 300 students that I still teach — computer science,” he noted.
Despite his decades of global influence in internet governance and technology, Prof. Quaynor continues to see hands-on mentorship as a powerful tool for national development. “I am one of the best programmers alive today,” he added, urging young people to take bold steps into the demanding but rewarding world of tech development.
