Ghana has emerged as the first beneficiary of France’s newly launched National Health Compact following high-level engagements between President John Dramani Mahama and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
The announcement was made by President Macron during bilateral talks that spanned a wide range of priority areas, including healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, regional security, and Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery efforts. Discussions also spotlighted the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway as a key project requiring strategic partnership.
President Macron further acknowledged the Accra Reset Initiative spearheaded by President Mahama, noting its growing international recognition as a framework for economic revitalisation.
The visit was marked by a ceremonial state reception at Les Invalides, where President Mahama was accorded full military honours ahead of his official meeting with the French leader—an event that reflected the enduring diplomatic ties between Ghana and France.
Beyond his engagement with President Macron, President Mahama also held separate talks with Gérard Larcher, focusing on expanding trade and investment, strengthening regional security, and enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.
Support for Ghana’s maternal health and agricultural sectors, as well as the country’s improving economic outlook, featured prominently in the discussions.
The President was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, National Security Advisor Prosper Bani, Secretary to the President Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to France Mavis Frimpong.
