Ghana splashed $1.26 million to secure 2,922 tickets for the Black Stars’ group games at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The passes are for the clashes with Panama, England and Croatia — 948 for the Panama tie, 1,000 for the England duel and 974 for the Croatia encounter.
The Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, disclosed this before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee on Thursday, September 17, stressing the tickets were not meant for resale.
He noted the total sum factored in FIFA’s approved 10% service fee on the printed price. “We used roughly $1.26 million to acquire the 2,922 tickets,” he stated. For the Panama fixture, 100 top-tier seats were bought at a FIFA list price of $450, rising to $495 with the surcharge.
Other classes bought included supporter premium, standard, value and entry, each priced up from its base value by the 10% fee. For the England showdown, 100 first-class seats were obtained at $600 each, going up to $660 after charges, as part of the 1,000-ticket package.
For the Croatia game, 100 Category One seats were secured at $500 apiece, costing $550 after the levy, within the 974 total. Mr. Adams said the tickets went to the Ghana Supporters Union, Ghana’s missions in Canada and the US, diaspora groups, the Ghana Students Association, the state delegation and some Ghana Football Association executives.
He explained the original plan was to hand over 800-plus tickets to home-based fans, with the rest for other Ghanaians.
But visa challenges at some application centres forced a shift, with more tickets redirected to Ghanaians already based abroad.
“We resolved to hand a larger share to Ghanaians in the diaspora who could attend,” he told the MPs.
