President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy, marking a significant shift from campaign promise to comprehensive national strategy. The policy aims to enhance productivity, drive inclusive economic growth, and promote job creation.
Speaking at the launch event in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, President Mahama emphasised that the concept of a 24-hour economy captured national attention in 2024, resonating as a symbol of hope and possibility. “We have moved from slogan to strategy today. In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary and that it was possible,” he said.
The President stressed that the policy’s success hinges on effective implementation. “Our task now is to ensure that the necessary change is with the implementation. This launch is not the end, but it is the beginning of a massive national mobilisation.”
Addressing misconceptions surrounding the policy, President Mahama clarified that the 24-Hour Economy initiative goes beyond extending work hours. “Let me be clear here, the 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating export through well-structured and inclusive interventions.”
The policy is expected to stimulate investment, strengthen Ghana’s global competitiveness, and promote job creation through a three-shift working system across key sectors. The Volta Economic Corridor will play a significant role in this initiative, driving job-rich and export-oriented growth ¹ ².
As Ghana embarks on this new economic era, President Mahama’s administration is committed to transforming the nation’s labour dynamics and unlocking long-term inclusive growth.
