Ghana is unlikely to face fuel shortages despite escalating Middle East tensions, the Tema Oil Refinery’s (TOR) Corporate Affairs Officer, Godwin Mahama Ayaba, has assured.
Speaking on JoyNews which was monitored by Ghanaianradar, Mr. Ayaba backed the National Petroleum Authority’s assurance that the conflict won’t disrupt fuel supply. “The National Petroleum Authority, which is the regulator, has issued a statement confirming that the Iran-Israel conflict will not lead to fuel shortages in Ghana,” Ayaba said.
Ghana’s diversified import sources and growing local refining capacity ensure stability. “We import about 80% of finished petroleum products from Europe and 20% from the Arabian region,” Ayaba noted. Local refineries, including TOR, Sentuo, Akwaaba, and Platon, will cover the shortfall. TOR’s production is expected to increase from 28,000 barrels to 45,000 and eventually 60,000 after upgrades.
Mr. Ayaba urged calm, reiterating the NPA’s assurance. “We should rest assured that we won’t experience fuel shortages,” he said, emphasizing Ghana will maintain European imports. The NPA and TOR officials are confident in the country’s preparedness to manage any potential disruptions.
