Government plans to revise the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) schedule to give candidates more time between papers and ease exam stress, Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed.
Addressing students at Aburi Girls’ Senior High School on Wednesday, June 10, he said concerns had been raised about the existing structure, which runs from Monday to Friday, noting it puts undue pressure on pupils.
“The government is reviewing the BECE exams calendar. So now the BECE will begin on a Wednesday and end the following Wednesday, so that adequate time is given to our learners to prepare for BECE across the country,” he stated.
He noted that the Ghana Education Service (GES) Director-General will handle rollout of the updated timetable once it is finalized. “I understand that our schedule of the exams for BECE was just Monday to Friday, and that put many of you under some stress,” he said.
Mr. Iddrisu explained that with the planned change, BECE will start on a Wednesday and finish the next Wednesday, giving candidates extra days to revise between subjects, including a weekend break during the exam period.
