The government has pledged to move beyond economic stabilisation and focus on creating jobs, improving incomes, and delivering better living conditions for Ghanaian workers.
Speaking at the 66th May Day celebration at Jubilee Park in Kumasi, Frank Amoakohene assured members of the Trade Union Congress that government remains committed to ensuring macroeconomic gains translate into real benefits for workers.
Addressing workers on the theme, “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs and Sustainable Livelihoods Beyond Macroeconomic Stability,” Dr Amoakohene said the country must now shift its focus from stabilising the economy to transforming lives through employment opportunities and sustainable growth.
According to him, economic progress must be measured not only by stability indicators but also by how many decent jobs are created and how much workers’ livelihoods improve.
He noted that government was prioritising local industrial development in the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to create sustainable employment opportunities.
The Regional Minister said ongoing policies are aimed at boosting industries, encouraging entrepreneurship, supporting innovation, and equipping young people with skills needed for the job market.
He added that government was also working to strengthen labour protections, improve workplace safety, and expand social protection systems.
While acknowledging the economic difficulties facing workers, Dr Amoakohene urged employees across the country to remain productive, professional, and committed to national development.
He also called for stronger collaboration between government, labour unions, and employers to build a more resilient and inclusive economy.
“Development is a shared responsibility, and together we can build a stronger economy that benefits all,” he stated.
