Ghanaian RADAR can report that cocoa farmers in Breman-Brofoyedu in the Upper Denkyira West District, Central Region, are being threatened at gunpoint by armed soldiers to abandon their cocoa plantations or face deadly consequences.
The farmers, who are mainly members of a local community-based organisation (CBO), Concerned Farmers Association-Breman (CFAB), are living in extreme fear due to this development.
The farmers indicated that over the last two weeks, Perseus Mining Ghana Limited (PMGL), a gold mining company in the district and in the region, has been using armed military and police personnel, accompanied by excavators to destroy their cocoa farms, claiming that their lands were in the company’s concession.

But what the poor farmers cannot fathom is why Perseus would not even sit down with them to agree on compensation to be paid them before they destroy their cocoa and other food crops for gold.
Narrating his harrowing experience to Ghanaian RADAR newspaper, one farmer, Yaw Duku, recounted how two of Perseus staff members and armed soldiers stormed his farm on September 18, 2025.

According to him, the soldiers first threatened to kill him if he did not leave! Despite feeling intimidated, Yaw Duku said, he questioned the legitimacy of their actions, asking if the government had also given them licence to shoot and kill innocent farmers.
Upon questioning the actions of the soldiers, Yaw Duku said the soldiers became aggressive, manhandled him, and warned him to stay off his land or they will kill him.
According to Yaw Duku, his farmland, which is about 3 acres of cocoa mixed with other cash crops, has been completed destroyed.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian RADAR has learned that the licence plate of one of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) vehicles allegedly terrorising and patrolling Ayanfuri and Breman is GA 4493, with the number 56 prominently displayed on the side of the vehicle.
