Ghana Water Limited’s (GWL) Managing Director, Adam Mutawakilu, has revealed plans to reassign 41 district managers effective January 15, 2026, as part of efforts to tackle illegal water connections and boost internal discipline.
This decision follows an internal review that exposed persistent operational weaknesses, particularly in addressing unauthorized water usage across various districts.
Mr. Mutawakilu stated that internal complicity was often behind these illegal connections, with some staff members facilitating the unauthorised activities. He emphasised that investigations consistently point to internal involvement, describing the situation as unacceptable. The GWL MD had previously set performance targets for district managers in May 2025, warning that failure to meet these benchmarks would result in reassignment.
The reassignments are part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening accountability, enhancing revenue collection, and restoring public trust in GWL’s operations. Mr. Mutawakilu attributed the decision to inadequate supervision and a lack of discipline at the district level, stressing that the situation demands urgent attention
