An Accra High Court has granted an application by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to freeze five bank accounts and four landed properties belonging to former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles.
The court order forms part of EOCO’s ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million at the IMCCoD. Investigators are probing suspected offences including fraud, theft and procurement-related irregularities allegedly committed during Mr Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary.
The latest development follows Mr Aboagye’s arrest at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, July 12, shortly after his arrival in Ghana. He was intercepted by immigration officials and handed over to EOCO for questioning before being granted release.
According to EOCO, the decision to arrest Mr Aboagye was based on significant new findings uncovered during the course of its investigations.
The agency stated that although the former Executive Secretary had been aware of the investigation and had previously honoured invitations to assist with inquiries, a stop order had been placed on him to prevent any travel that could potentially interfere with the ongoing probe.
EOCO maintains that both the arrest and the asset-freezing order form part of broader efforts to investigate the alleged financial improprieties at the IMCCoD and preserve assets that may be relevant to the case.
The Office has also confirmed the arrest of the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, as investigations into the alleged loss of public funds continue.
EOCO says investigations remain ongoing and further action will be determined by the outcome of the probe.
