A devastating fire swept through the Adum Market in Kumasi’s Central Business District (CBD), leaving a trail of destruction and loss in its wake. The blaze, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, rapidly spread to adjacent shops, fueled by the highly flammable materials stored within.
Business owners watched in horror as their livelihoods went up in flames, with many attempting to salvage what they could despite the danger.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly, dispatching six fire tenders to the scene. However, their efforts were hindered by the market’s narrow alleys and congested access routes, making it challenging to contain the blaze.
As the city comes to terms with the extent of the damage, business owners are counting the cost of the devastating fire. The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, but eyewitnesses suggest it may have been sparked by an electrical fault.
