A police inspector has been suspended by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command over claims he defiled his 14-year-old daughter.

In a release published on Saturday, May 9, the Command said Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, who works at the Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region, is under investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Agona District.

The police explained that the case was reported on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa from Koforidua in the Eastern Region on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.

The complainant accused the girl’s biological father of sexually abusing her.

Officers stated that the teenager was sent to a government hospital for a medical check to support the ongoing probe.

The release also noted that Inspector Owusu Afriyie turned himself in at the Agona DOVVSU office on February 20, 2026, where he was detained and cautioned.

The suspect is said to have denied the charges in his caution statement and was subsequently released on enquiry bail while investigations continue.

The Command said the suspension is to allow the inquiry to proceed without interference.

“The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its commitment to thorough investigations into the matter and will communicate further developments,” the statement added.
