The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has formally received the final report of the Gbenyiri Mediation Committee, established to address longstanding tensions between the Lobi/Birifor and Gonja communities in the Savannah Region.
The Committee, set up in September 2025, was mandated to facilitate dialogue and promote peaceful coexistence in the conflict-affected areas.
Its report is expected to provide a structured roadmap for rebuilding trust, strengthening tolerance and restoring stability within the Gbenyiri community and the broader Sawla-Tuna-Kalba enclave.

In remarks following the presentation, the Minister commended the Committee for its dedication and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing its recommendations.
He also expressed appreciation to development partners for their support throughout the mediation process and appealed for sustained collaboration to rebuild social cohesion in the area.
The Committee was chaired by Emmanuel Bombande, who led consultations and engagement efforts among key stakeholders.

Presenting the report, Mr Bombande thanked the President, the Interior Minister, the Overlord of Gonja and other stakeholders for their backing and cooperation.
He emphasised that achieving sustainable peace requires deliberate planning, consistent follow-through and collective responsibility.
He urged the government to prioritise the implementation of the Committee’s recommendations and to establish a clear roadmap and monitoring framework to ensure the proposals translate into lasting peace and stability in the region.
