Jurors at the Accra High Court are contemplating petitioning the Office of the Attorney General (AG) due to the government’s failure to pay their allowances, which has led to an ongoing strike for nearly a month. The jurors have not received their allowances for the past eight months and claim they have yet to receive formal communication from the Judicial Service regarding the delay.
“We have still not heard from the Judicial Service. We are still waiting to hear from them, so we advise ourselves,” said Joshua Alorgbey, spokesperson for the group. “We wanted to approach the Attorney General, he might be aware, though, but we wanted to visit his outfit and, if possible, take it further.”
Alorgbey added, “That is what we are considering now. We have not made any decision on that for now. We are waiting a little to see.” The jurors’ decision to potentially escalate the matter to the Attorney General’s office highlights the growing frustration over the delayed payments.
