The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, has brushed aside suggestions of tension between himself and aspiring National Chairman, John Boadu, insisting they are mature politicians with a shared focus on bringing the NPP back to power.
He was responding to concerns that the two might struggle to collaborate following the 2022 national delegates conference where Mr Boadu lost the General Secretary position to Mr Kodua.
Provisional results from the conference point to Mr Boadu emerging as the frontrunner in the National Chairman race.
In an interview with journalists, Mr Kodua said the ultimate goal of the party was to win the 2028 general election and secure the presidency for its flag-bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“The good thing is JB has never said anywhere that he cannot work with me. In the same way, I have never said anywhere that I cannot work with JB,” he noted.
“So there should be no issue. People have the right to make their own assumptions and draw their own conclusions. But as far as we are concerned, we have no problem. We are mature politicians. We understand that where we find ourselves now, the NPP has to win.”
According to Mr Kodua, he and Mr Boadu are united by the common objective of making Dr Bawumia win the 2028 presidential election.
“We all have a common agenda, which is to make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the President of Ghana in 2029. And we are focused on that,” he added.
He said he was confident that Mr Boadu together with the incoming leadership will work to deliver victory for the NPP. “I can tell you that JB and the JFK administration will give us victory in 2028,” he said.
