The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has issued a final notice to traders occupying sections of the old market in Kasoa, directing them to vacate the area to pave the way for a major redevelopment project.
A task force led by Nana Adeiso IV recently toured the market to enforce the directive, warning that demolition works will commence imminently with no further extensions.
The decision follows an earlier deadline of March 27, which was extended to allow traders to operate through the Easter period. Authorities say that grace period has now expired, and all affected traders are expected to comply immediately.
The Assembly has indicated that alternative trading spaces have been secured at the Kasoa Iron City Market, where displaced traders can relocate and continue their businesses. Officials noted that the facility is fully prepared for use and is located near the Kasoa central business district.
Speaking to the media, Nana Adeiso IV reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to the redevelopment initiative, describing it as part of broader efforts to modernise market infrastructure and boost economic activity in the municipality.
He also warned traders against dealing with individuals who claim they can halt the eviction in exchange for money, stressing that the exercise will proceed as planned. He urged traders to cooperate fully to avoid any confrontations.
The Assembly maintains that the redevelopment project will ultimately improve trading conditions and enhance commercial activity in the area.
