The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has indefinitely postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, the university’s management said the industrial action had disrupted the effective administration and operations of the institution, necessitating the postponement of the scheduled reopening.
The academic year was initially expected to commence on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Management has advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the postponement and await further updates on the new reopening date.
The university did not provide a specific timeline for the resumption of academic activities but assured stakeholders that a revised date would be announced in due course.
“Management regrets any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders,” the statement said.
The decision comes amid ongoing disruptions to administrative services at KNUST following the GAUA strike, which has left some university offices operating below capacity.
The postponement is expected to remain in effect until management provides further communication on the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic year.
