Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted two doctors and two nurses following allegations that emergency treatment was refused to a road accident victim who later died after reportedly being turned away from multiple health facilities.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday, February 23, 2026, amid widespread public concern over reports that the patient was denied care despite being in critical condition.
According to hospital authorities, the affected staff members have been temporarily relieved of their duties pending the outcome of investigations. A committee has also been constituted to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and determine whether emergency care protocols were violated.
Management indicated that all personnel connected to the case have been instructed to cooperate fully with investigators to ensure a fair and transparent process.
The deceased, 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer with Promasidor Ghana Limited, reportedly sustained severe shoulder injuries in a hit-and-run accident at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6, 2026.
He was stabilised by Emergency Medical Services personnel and prepared for transfer to a health facility for further treatment. However, reports indicate that he could not secure admission at the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital and Korle Bu due to the unavailability of beds.
While at Korle Bu, he reportedly went into cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead.
The hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and assured the public that updates will be provided once investigations are completed.
