Some market queen mothers representing traders in Kumasi have called on trader associations to refrain from mounting what they describe as undue pressure on John Dramani Mahama regarding the completion of the Kejetia Phase Two market project.
At a press conference, the queen mothers argued that the pace of work under the current administration reflects significant progress compared to developments over the past eight years. They commended the government for its efforts to revive stalled and abandoned infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region.
Grace Agyei Darko highlighted several markets initiated during Mahama’s previous administration, including the Atonsu Market, Asawase Market, and the Kejetia Phase One project, noting their contribution to commercial activity in the metropolis.

She further indicated that previously stalled projects such as the Krofrom Market and Kejetia Phase Two have resumed, with contractors returning to site and work progressing steadily. According to her, the current pace of construction should be acknowledged rather than criticised.
The remarks follow a recent demonstration by some traders demanding the expedited completion of the Kejetia Market redevelopment project.
However, the queen mothers maintained that consistent commitment of the kind now being observed could have led to earlier completion and upgrading of several market facilities across Kumasi. They cited the Krofrom Market project—stalled for nearly two decades—as an example, noting that construction has resumed and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
The group expressed confidence in the administration’s development agenda, asserting that the president remains committed to advancing infrastructure and economic activity in Kumasi and the wider Ashanti Region.
