Counsel for Salomey Awity Baffoe, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has dismissed suggestions that his client took cash from the person behind the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok page to aid the spread of online posts.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, September 22, Mr Baffour Awuah rubbished the claims, maintaining that Baffoe never collected funds to enlist persons or back the operations of the account.
“My client has never received money to recruit anybody or has never given money to anybody to recruit someone,” he stated. His reaction comes after the Ghana Police Service alleged that Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, said to be the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” account, sent money to Baffoe in Ghana to facilitate the posting and sharing of online material.
The Police further claimed Baffoe later shared parts of the said money with others who helped redistribute videos created by Kodua on different social media platforms.
According to the Police, a forensic review of Baffoe’s phone, audio and video files, alongside mobile money records, pointed to supposed financial dealings between the two women.
But Mr Baffour Awuah cast doubt on the details released by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Lydia Donkor, at a press conference on the matter.
“The CID Director General came out and then did a press conference and put out certain information. I want to say that that information is doubtful in nature,” he said.
He added that his client does not know anyone called “Jollof,” noting he would not speculate on who runs the account but would stick to addressing the accusations levelled against his client.
“So let me say this here, my client has never known anybody called Jollof. You don’t have to know by that name. You can know the person by their real name,” he explained.
Salomey Baffoe has been charged with abetment of crime, namely publication of false news, and has pleaded not guilty. She was remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court and will return on September 30, 2026, as investigations proceed.
