President John Dramani Mahama will tour the Akosombo Dam today (Thursday, 30 April 2026,) to evaluate damage from a recent blaze at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) substation that triggered unstable electricity supply.

The incident, which damaged key installations at the facility, cut over 1,000 megawatts from the national network, hampering distribution and sparking a return of “dumsor” in multiple communities.

The President’s visit aims to appraise conditions on the ground as authorities say measures are underway to completely restore power. So far, four generating units at the dam have been successfully restarted, Energy Minister John Jinapor confirmed, with the rest projected to be fully back online this week.

The President’s trip will also enable updates from technical crews on current repair efforts and steps being introduced to avoid further breakdowns in the power transmission network.
