President John Dramani Mahama has begun high-level engagements with Jamaican authorities as part of his four-day official visit to the Caribbean country.
The focus of the talks is to boost trade, attract investment, deepen cultural links and advance cooperation among developing nations.
On Monday, August 8, President Mahama and his team were welcomed at King’s House in Kingston by Jamaica’s Governor-General, Sir Patrick Allen, and his wife, Lady Allen.
The President received a ceremonial Guard of Honour before paying a courtesy visit to the Governor-General and Lady Allen. He later moved to the Office of the Prime Minister, where he was hosted by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
After signing the visitors’ book, the two leaders held a closed-door session to discuss areas of common interest and ways to expand collaboration between Accra and Kingston.
That was followed by expanded discussions between officials from both countries. The Presidency said the agenda covered increasing commercial and investment ties, encouraging exchanges in culture and education and working together on regional and international matters.
The day ended with a joint press conference at the Executive Building. President Mahama and Prime Minister Holness briefed the media on what was agreed and restated their commitment to building on the historic friendship between Ghana and Jamaica.
The President’s four-day State Visit is aimed at deepening diplomatic relations and unlocking new opportunities for partnership across several sectors.
