Mahama Vows No Surrender in Galamsey Battle

President John Dramani Mahama addressing workers on May Day

President John Mahama has declared an unrelenting crackdown on illegal mining, warning that entities destroying Ghana’s environment will face justice. Speaking at Accra’s 2025 May Day celebrations, he admitted the fight against galamsey is fraught with challenges but vowed, “We will not give up.”

“This battle won’t be won overnight, but our security forces are equipped and ready to dismantle these destructive operations,” Mahama asserted, addressing mounting public fury over poisoned rivers and razed forests.

Emphasising his administration’s resolve, the President invoked the rallying cry “Aluta Continua” (The struggle continues), signaling intensified efforts to safeguard Ghana’s natural resources. Illegal mining remains a top priority amid nationwide calls for urgent action.
