Mahama Warns SOE Boards Against Graft, Abuse of Office

President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned members of his government and boards of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to steer clear of conflict of interest, abuse of power and mismanagement of state assets.

He said anyone given the mandate to run a state institution must demonstrate integrity, transparency and accountability at all times.

According to the President, appointees and board members have a duty to safeguard the public interest and ensure their decisions can stand up to public scrutiny.

President Dramani Mahama gave the warning on Thursday, September 10, while speaking at the SIGA Governing Boards and CEOs Conference 2026.

He charged boards and management to ensure all their actions comply with the law and due process.“ Ladies and gentlemen, this administration will not tolerate conflict of interest or abuse of office. Procurement must be lawful and follow the guidelines; it must be competitive and transparent.

“Recruitment and promotions must be based on merit, and contracts, investments and asset disposal must withstand scrutiny and demonstrate value for money.“

..Boards must take personal responsibility for land, buildings, equipment and investments in their custody. Unauthorised disposal, encroachment or dissipation of state assets is not a minor administrative lapse. It is a breach of trust against the people of Ghana,” he stated.

He assured that government will continue to hold public officers accountable for the management of state resources.

The conference assembled board members and Chief Executive Officers of SOEs to deliberate on governance, accountability, performance and efficient management of public enterprises.
