President John Dramani Mahama has commended 54 Ghanaian soldiers following their return from a successful humanitarian mission in Jamaica, describing their service as a testament to Ghana’s commitment to global solidarity.
The President, in a post on Wednesday, said he joined the military high command to receive the contingent from the 48 Engineer Regiment, praising them for their dedication and courage.
The team had been deployed in December to assist with recovery efforts after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage in the Caribbean nation.

President Mahama noted that the mission reflected the deep historical ties between Ghana and Caribbean countries, anchored in shared heritage and Pan-African ideals.
While in Jamaica, the soldiers worked alongside the Jamaica Defence Force and United States partners to reconstruct more than 26 homes and public facilities destroyed by the disaster.

He said the operation, though non-combat in nature, demonstrated the versatility and professionalism of the Ghana Armed Forces, highlighting their ability to deliver critical support beyond national borders.
The President applauded the contingent for their commitment and successful execution of the mission, noting that their efforts had brought honour to the country.
“You have made Ghana proud,” he said.
