Police have arrested a 23-year-old palm wine tapper, Kwaku Prince, also known as “On God,” for allegedly setting fire to his girlfriend’s family house at Subri Nkwanta.
The incident occurred in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality.
According to a relative of the victims, Poulina Tweneboah Koduah, the suspect had gone to the house looking for his alleged girlfriend, Benedicta Kudjo Felicia, a 19-year-old student of Queen Senior High School.
The family had reportedly warned the suspect to stay away because Felicia was still in school and they did not approve of the relationship.
However, the suspect allegedly insisted he wanted to marry her and threatened to burn down the house if the family refused.
According to Koduah, the family later received information that the suspect had allegedly set the house on fire.
Felicia suffered severe burns and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where she later died.
Their mother, Mary Andoh, 60, also died at the Anhwiaso Community Hospital.
Another victim, Dora Adoma Kudjo, 22, was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment but later passed away.
Police say the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, the bereaved family and community leaders are calling on authorities to ensure justice is served.
