The Minority Caucus in Parliament has endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flag-bearer, pledging full support for the 2028 general elections.
In a congratulatory message shared on January 31, 2026, they praised the party’s grassroots efforts and urged members to rally behind Dr. Bawumia while intensifying scrutiny of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“To our party’s grassroots structures – constituency executives, polling station organisers, and dedicated volunteers from Tamale to Takoradi, from Aflao to Axim, your tireless efforts form the backbone of our political enterprise,” the Minority said.
They urged members to support Dr. Bawumia’s leadership while holding the NDC accountable for their governance. The caucus said its members, along with former NPP MPs, are ready to provide strategic support, drawing on parliamentary experience and past achievements.
“The Minority Caucus, together with former NPP MPs, pledges full support to Dr. Bawumia,” the statement said. With experience in securing 169 seats in 2016 and 137 in 2020, and delivering policies like Free SHS and digital initiatives, they are poised to guide the party to 2028.
The Minority will focus on scrutinizing the NDC government on issues affecting Ghanaians, including gold reserve depletion, financial losses, and ineffective governance.
They criticised the government’s response to illegal mining and youth unemployment, reaffirming the NPP’s united stance and alternative vision for Ghana. “Under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, we are better positioned to serve Ghana’s interests and restore hope,” the statement said, envisioning a prosperous Ghana post-2028 with efficient Free SHS, broad-based prosperity, and democratic governance.
