Minority Members of Parliament staged a march to the Police Headquarters on Wednesday, June 4, to petition the Inspector General of Police over the Electoral Commission’s delay in declaring parliamentary election results for Ablekuma North constituency following the 2024 General Elections.
Addressing journalists, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh expressed concern over the prolonged delay, emphasizing that it was unacceptable for the EC to withhold the results. He urged the police to provide security for the EC to facilitate the declaration of results, stressing that this would ensure the democratic process moves forward without further hindrance.
“The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitutes a serious breach of the constitutional right to representation guaranteed under the 1992 constitution,” Dompreh stated. “We cannot afford to have our constituents denied their rightful representation in Parliament any longer.”
The Minority MPs’ petition to the police highlights the growing tensions surrounding the delayed election results, with the affected constituency eagerly awaiting the outcome.
