The Minority in Parliament is pushing to oust Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, over alleged irregularities in a recent evacuation exercise.
According to the caucus, the action is needed to enforce accountability and protect the credibility of public office.
The group warned that if Ablakwa stays in post, it will trigger constitutional action against him.
“Should the minister remain in office, the Minority will consider invoking Article 82 of the Constitution and Order 138 of the Standing Orders for a vote of censure,” the statement said.
A censure motion under Article 82 needs backing from two-thirds of MPs to succeed. If passed, the Minister is expected to step down, or the President must withdraw his appointment.
