Minority Wants GH¢113m Back for Failed Security Applicants

Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour

The Minority in Parliament wants the Ministry of the Interior to refund GH¢113 million collected from applicants who failed to qualify for the recent security service recruitment. Over 500,000 people applied for 5,000 roles, with only 105,000 qualifying for the medical stage.

Addressing journalists, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, accused the government of exploiting applicants.

“You promised them jobs… You knew from the very beginning you were recruiting only 5,000, and yet you did all this to lure half a million people, took their money, milked them GH¢113 million cedis and over,” he said.

Mr. Fordjour urged the government to refund the money and ensure transparency in future recruitment exercises to protect applicants from financial exploitation. The government had expanded the age limit from 25 to 35, “signaling that there is more room and more access, more financial clearance, which was a lie,” Fordjour added, emphasizing the need for accountability.

The Minority’s demand seeks to address the financial burden on unsuccessful applicants.
