A team extinguishing an inferno at the Odupongkpehe Zongo sector of the Kasoa Old Market encountered hostility from an angry mob, requiring law enforcement to step in so firefighters could battle the flames.
Crews deployed from the Weija Fire Station reported being targeted with rocks upon arrival, resulting in a shattered windscreen on their appliance. The assembly obstructed the route to the emergency, impeding attempts to control the fire. The Weija Fire Station Administrator, DO Addo Danso, stated the aggression was triggered by grievances that the unit had reached the location late.
He dismissed this assertion, confirming the squad arrived at 8:20 pm following the emergency alert logged at 5:54 pm. Backup from the police was ultimately necessary to scatter the crowd and open a route for the firefighting team to commence their efforts.
By the moment entry was secured, two storage units fashioned from containers were utterly ravaged by the fire. An official grievance has subsequently been submitted at the Kasoa CBD Police Station, with inquiries ongoing and potential detentions foreseen.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, informed the press that any individuals detained regarding the aggression will encounter legal consequences.
