AS Monaco’s Ghanaian defender, Mohammed Salisu, has made a meaningful spiritual journey to Mecca, where he performed the Islamic ritual of Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan.
The 24-year-old, who has been sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, seized the opportunity to observe this significant moment in his faith as part of his recovery process.
As Ramadan continues, Salisu is not only focusing on his physical recovery but also honoring his devotion to Islam by fasting for the full 30 days of the holy month.
His pilgrimage to Mecca, though a non-mandatory act, holds deep religious significance, particularly when carried out during Ramadan, a time considered most sacred for Muslims.
“Performing Umrah at this time has been a powerful spiritual experience for me,” said Salisu. “Being able to reflect and reconnect with my faith while recovering from an injury has been a source of peace and motivation as I focus on my recovery for the upcoming football season.”
Despite being ruled out of competitive action for months, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to his ACL injury, Salisu remains optimistic about his future. The talented defender has expressed hope that he will recover in time to represent his country on the world stage, with the 2026 World Cup being a major goal.
