The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has raised an alarm over the destructive rivalries between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs), stating that the infighting is crippling development in the region.
Dr. Amoakohene cautioned that the poor relationships are delaying vital projects and creating dysfunctional coordination within districts. He labeled the ongoing tensions as detrimental during a press briefing in Kumasi on Monday, October 6, 2025, urging for immediate and improved collaboration to advance government programmes.
He revealed that these conflicts are directly impacting the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, a crucial resource for MPs. “Some use that as a way to settle scores,” the Minister stated, explaining how the fund becomes a tool in their disputes.
He further highlighted how a lack of communication often leads to leaders feigning ignorance of assembly initiatives. “This is not helpful. For local governance to work effectively, we need to carry along all stakeholders,” Dr. Amoakohene emphasized.
The Minister concluded with a call for MPs and DCEs to set aside competition and focus on cooperation to fulfill the government’s development promises for Ashanti.
