Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed has disclosed that several recruits have been dismissed from security services training schools after they were found to have used forged or doctored WASSCE results to gain admission.
According to the Minister, the discrepancies were detected after the academic results submitted by the recruits were forwarded to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for verification.
He said recruits found to have falsified their results would be placed on a red list, preventing them from applying to join any of Ghana’s security services in the future.
The Minister added that some of those involved could also face prosecution for falsifying official documents.
Speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate new classroom facilities at the Asokore Mampong Roman Catholic School, Alhaji Muntaka expressed concern that individuals seeking careers in the security services would resort to falsifying their academic records.
“It’s so shocking that a lot of people forged their results. I don’t know how they think that they will be employed in the Police, Prisons, Immigration, Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission, or Armed Forces, and the certificate you present won’t be checked,” he said.
He revealed that the verification exercise had already led to the dismissal of a number of recruits from training institutions.
“As we speak, many have been dismissed from the training because they have doctored their results slips,” he added.
Warning to prospective applicants
Alhaji Muntaka urged prospective applicants to ensure they meet the required academic qualifications before applying to join any of the country’s security services.
He stressed that applicants should not assume that certificates and results submitted during recruitment would escape verification, warning that attempts to falsify academic records could lead to dismissal and further legal consequences.
